50+ Midlife Careers

My specialty guiding midlife career change is writing a transitional resume and cover letter, and coaching your progress to successful conclusion.

Since the early 90's recession when professional-level employees first felt economic crunch, I have worked with clients stopped by changes from business mergers, downsizing, reengineering, acquisitions --all outside their control.

Finding a sudden stop point to your career in mid-50's need not be a disaster, but can mean an opportunity to redirect your career to a new company or industry! Please also review my new site: www.midlifecareers.com

If you are reading this page
You suddenly have an opportunity to advance your career, but your resume is 15 years old (or more!).
You would like to work in an entirely different industry, but don't know the best approach to present your talents, skills, accomplishments that would appeal to this new marketplace.

You are angry or disappointed and determined you are not going to take anymore.

You are in mild shock from having suddenly lost your job or are worried about a changing business environment and what will happen to your job in the near future.

You are bored with your career, but do not have a plan or direction for change.

Or, you are successful at what you do, but just an itch to change.

Resume Writing That Specifically Fits Your Needs

We design a custom-tailored resume geared to your future choices

Before beginning to write your resume - we need to bring together your your talents, accomplishments, and layering of knowledge.

Next, comes the decision of what you want to do next - a new career path or change within your own industry.

Combining what you've done with your plan for the future, guides the way the resume is formed.

Clearly stating for a future employer what you've done and what you can bring must be clear and dynamic to produce the result you want namely, THE INTERVIEW.

A well written resume gets your foot in the door.

– A well written resume gives you a clearer understanding of your worth

– A well written resume clears up blindspots, and doubts.

A well written resume overcomes lack of education and age by demonstrating honed skills.

– A well written cover letter shows enthusiasm for new challenges.

– A well written resume is your first negotiating tool for salary.

– A well written resume helps you setup your plan of action!

We plan with you - the best strategy for your personal outsourcing. This may vary with direct mail, networking, newspaper advertisement, and Web Distribution.

Beyond the Resume

No matter how technical or advanced your knowledge - it is your enthusiasm that sells!

No matter how many accomplishments you have to your credit - some were more fun than others - identifying these through the process of Resume Writing will help you understand your talent bases. They are as unique to you as a thumb print, and are what makes you different from any other candidate.

I like to call these your career footprint. Removing your blind spots to what really makes you great is your added benefit of the resume process.

Getting Clear Before The Resume!

What you may need is the
Career Couch

What if you are just not so clear? What if you would like to take time to make a plan?

The 3 "C's"-Commitment, Courage & Confidence: What are you committed to cause? What might stand in the way? How can you eliminate the roadblocks? What FEARS (False Expectations Appearing Real) need to be examined? How can you strengthen that commitment and "snowball" your confidence?

E-Mail May, 2003: Hello Mary Ann, Here's an update on my job hunt, since you revised my resume and cover letter this past winter

After submitting my new resume to a host of companies, both local and outside Indiana, I was able to interview with Roche Diagnostics, T2 Systems, Adobe Systems, Thomson Multimedia, BioSentinel, and America Online.

Several executive recruiters also commented that my new resume was awesome and they remarked that the profile section was very unique and quite useful. Even my collegiate son liked it and successfully used the profile approach in his resume for summer work.

Just last week I received an attractive offer, with a great relocation package, from America Online and I decided to accept the position as their new Director of Competitive Intelligence. It's bittersweet having to depart Indianapolis after 18 years, but my family is excited about soon moving to the Northern Virginia area.

Thanks again for all your help and support. You are welcome to use my comments in any of your marketing efforts.

Steve G. Kukla - Indianapolis

Just want you to know that I had a response in 5 days after my resume went out and have just signed a contract for selling paramedical supplies with a new territory in Chicago. Janis Hubble Aug 2003 - 50+

Was just hired as Consultant Industrial Engineer by Revlon. Their first comment was great cover letter! Also, the curriculum vitae you developed has produced a teaching position at San Diego State University

After I hit the glass sealing and crashed, I thought it was all over. Mary Ann worked with me like a friend with some gentle shoving that brought me to a successful conclusion(better than before) in about 6 months.
Katherine - age 55 CEO.
Never thought I needed branding. But I did; and it worked.
– Michael - 52 - Marketing Executive

Thanks again for all your help. Product Design has limited recruiters, but you did it! Us older guys need your help - keep writing.
